As origens da Capela de Nossa Senhora da Piedade remontam ao século XVI. De prospeto chão o seu interior, de nave única e capela-mor retangular com cobertura em abóbada de berço, ostentando no bocete central da cobertura em abóbada de ogivas artesoadas e apoiadas em mísulas as armas dos Castro da Penha Verde.
Já na posse dos Cadaval, o 3.º duque, D. Jaime, promoveu em 1721 o seu restauro e enriquecimento interior, integralmente revestido com azulejos figurados da autoria de António de Oliveira Bernardes. Este conjunto azulejar barroco desenvolve-se em três registos, o inferior com cenas bucólicas e campestres, o central ostenta painéis com passagens marianas que se alongam à capela-mor, onde se destaca o retábulo em talha, enquanto no registo superior se evidenciam episódios da Paixão de Cristo.

The chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade dates back to the 16th century. From a plain architectural perspective its single-naved interior and rectangular barrel-vaulted chancel, whose central fleuron on its vaulted roof has coffered ogives, are supported by corbels displaying the coat-of-arms of the Castro da Penha Verde family.
During the ownership of the Cadaval family, in 1721, Jaime, 3rd Duke of Cadaval, restored and enriched the interior of the chapel which is fully clad with figurative tiles designed by António de Oliveira Bernardes. This baroque tilework comprises three sections. The lower panel depicts bucolic and country scenes, the central panel which extends up to the chancel, displays Marian themes in which mention should be made of the carved retable. The upper section depicts episodes of the Passion of Christ.
