Património na Zona Especial de Proteção da Paisagem Cultural de Sintra
A construção da Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia de Colares foi patrocinada por D. Francisco de Mello e Castro. Em estilo-chão, destaca-se o pórtico de verga reta que ostenta a seguinte inscrição: Esta Casa é da Misericórdia principiou-se a dois de Novembro de 1623.
O interior da igreja, de uma só nave com cobertura em abóbada de berço, apresenta-se despojado, realçando-se, somente, o coro e o cadeiral da irmandade, em L. Não possui arco triunfal e a área do altar define-se pelo alteamento do pavimento, permanecendo ali um retábulo de talha e pintura maneirista. Trata-se do antigo retábulo-mor da igreja da Misericórdia de Sintra, pintado em 1581 por Cristóvão Vaz, que na sequência da renovação da Misericórdia de Sintra, este retábulo passou, por venda ou oferta, para a Misericórdia de Colares.

The construction of the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia in Colares was sponsored by Francisco de Mello e Castro. Special reference should be made, in this plain Portuguese architectural style, to the portico’s straight lintel which bears the following inscription: Construction works on this House of Mercy began on 2 November 1623.
The interior of this single, barrel-vaulted, nave has been deplenished and its only item of note is its choir and L-shaped chair of the brotherhood. It does not have a triumphal arch and the altar area is defined by the elevation of the base containing a carved retable painted in the manneriststyle. This old retable painted in 1581 by Cristóvão Vaz, was taken from the Igreja da Misericórdia de Sintra. Following renovation works on the Misericórdia de Sintra, the retable was either sold or gifted to the Misericórdia de Colares.
